German Heritage Festival 2015!

By German Society of Pennsylvania (other events)

2 Dates Through Oct 04, 2015

ABOUT ABOUT

It’s almost time again for our German Heritage Festival, and this year it’s grown to a two-day event! On Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, the German Society will team up with our own PhillyKinder and our friends from the Society for Creative Anachronism to educate and celebrate two very different and very exciting periods in German history!

On October 3rd, the students of PhillyKinder will present a program entitled “25 Jahre Deutsche Einheit – Ein Grund zum Feiern.” The event begins at 4pm, with a performance of the German-language play “Ein Land ohne Mauer – da ist keiner sauer!“ and displays about German reunification. This will be followed by German music, food, and drink, including a Kinderdisko and German film for children. Admission for October 3rd includes all food and non-alcoholic beverages.

On October 4th, from 11am – 5pm, we will partner with our friends from the Society for Creative Anachronism to present a full day of fun and education, all having to do with medieval and Renaissance German history and art. There will be demonstrations and hands-on activities featuring medieval dance, combat, embroidery, calligraphy, and more! Design your own coat of arms, learn how to play medieval and Rennaissance board games, watch 16th century fencers, and even get the chance to taste some medieval recipes! General admission includes samples of cooking demonstration food. A full lunch is available at additional cost.
