ABOUT ABOUT

September 27 at 10:00am, German Genealogy: Starting Closer to Home, led by Dr. Jim Niessen of the German Society

The German Society's first genealogical conference two years ago started in Germany, with what you need to know about its regions, records, and script.  Our new program starts right here at the German Society: with the family histories of some leading figures in the Society's own past, and how to trace them in databases and archives.

Beginning with basic biographical information, we’ll explain how to search and what you can find in the major genealogical databases.  These are essential starting points, but German congregations and parishes are rarely indexed in these sources.

Speakers from the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Historical Research Center and the Lutheran Archives Center at Philadelphia will describe some of the unique resources from the Philadelphia area that can be consulted in their repositories.
